Latin America has the highest rate in the world of gender-based sexual violence against women, and the acceptance of the violence against women is linked to the culture of machismo in Latin America. Through the depiction of the female portrait, I intend to bring light into this issue and to empower women who have been victims of machismo. Per consequence, I have decided to depict different Latin American women dressed in old traditional garments carrying alongside with them the Dalia. The Dalia is the national flower of many regions in Latin America, and it symbolizes the power of standing tall under adversity using your inner force to overcome your adversities and to know your own self worth.
